Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: May 3, 2026
Tag-a-Tutor is a peer-tutoring platform built for school communities. This Acceptable Use Policy explains what users may and may not do on the platform. It applies to everyone with an account — students, tutors, teachers, parents, and school admins. By using Tag-a-Tutor you agree to follow these rules; by violating them you risk losing access.
1. Be respectful
Tag-a-Tutor is meant to be a positive part of school life. You may not:
- Harass, threaten, intimidate, or bully another user.
- Post or send content that's hateful, racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise targets people on the basis of who they are.
- Share another person's personal information (address, phone, identifying photos, etc.) without their consent — also known as doxing.
- Send unwanted sexual content or sexual advances. Tag-a-Tutor is a tool for tutoring, not for personal relationships between students and tutors of different ages.
- Post or send anything that depicts the abuse or sexualization of minors. We will report this to law enforcement, full stop.
2. Use the platform for what it's for
- Messages are for scheduling tutoring sessions and asking session-related questions. Don't use them as a general chat app or to spam other users.
- Tutor profiles, bios, and reviews are for honest information about tutoring. Don't use them to advertise outside services, run promotions, or post content unrelated to tutoring.
- TAG requests are for parents who actually want tutoring help for their child. Don't submit fake requests or test entries on production.
- Don't sell, rent, or transfer your account to anyone else, and don't share your password.
3. Don't break or abuse the system
- Don't try to gain access to accounts, data, or features that aren't yours — including by guessing passwords, exploiting bugs, or social engineering.
- Don't run scrapers, bots, or automation against the site beyond what a normal browser does. Don't try to overload the service or trigger denial-of-service conditions.
- Don't bypass or disable security features, rate limits, role-based access controls, or content filters.
- Don't upload viruses, malware, or anything designed to interfere with the service or other users' devices.
- Don't impersonate another user, the school, or Tag-a-Tutor staff.
4. Honesty in reviews and ratings
- Reviews must be based on real tutoring sessions you actually attended.
- Don't write reviews for yourself, and don't ask friends to write reviews to inflate your rating.
- Don't write retaliatory or fake-negative reviews about a tutor or session because of personal disputes.
- School admins and TAG facilitators may remove reviews that clearly violate this section.
5. Reporting
If you see something that breaks this policy — abuse, threats, fake reviews, security problems, or anything else — please tell us:
- Email info@tagatutor.org with as much detail as you can share (screenshots help).
- If it's an emergency or someone is in immediate danger, contact your school directly first, and then tell us when you're safe.
- You can also tell a trusted adult at your school — teacher, counselor, or facilitator — who can escalate to us.
We won't reveal who reported a violation unless we're required to by law or by the school you attend.
6. Consequences
What happens when someone breaks this policy depends on what they did. Possible responses include:
- A warning, asking the user to remove the offending content or change their behavior.
- Removal of specific posts, messages, reviews, or profile content.
- Temporary suspension of an account.
- Permanent termination of an account.
- Notifying the user's school, since most users access Tag-a-Tutor through a school account.
- Notifying law enforcement, where the conduct is illegal (threats, child sexual abuse material, etc.).
For serious violations we will skip warnings and go straight to suspension or termination.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date and, where significant, notify active users by email. Continuing to use Tag-a-Tutor after a change means you accept the updated policy.
